I’m flying over to Pebble Beach this week…..well, virtually

February 10, 2010

With the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am being played this week I thought I’d take a look at the spectacular Golf Links course layout on the internet.
After some digging around, I found a great flyover of the Links course at Golf Frontier, a very cool website that provides free virtual flyovers for many courses and [...]

The Tube: Reliving Van de Velde at Carnoustie, 1999

February 7, 2010

I read recently at Golfweek.com that Jean Van de Velde had failed to qualify for the 2010 Asia Tour, after recently moving to Asia for family reasons. It got me thinking about THAT 72nd hole at Carnoustie in 1999.
So, I went in search of some footage on YouTube to reminisce and came across this interview [...]

Do you track your golf stats? You should……and here’s how

February 3, 2010

Since joining a golf club again, and playing regularly, I’m keen to get back to tracking my golf stats. About 10 years ago I developed a website for me and a few friends to track our stats. The site became inactive and eventually disappeared from cyberspace after we all stopped playing together a few years [...]

The Tube: Ken Green’s Story

January 30, 2010

I read about the death of Hunter Green, son of former professional golfer Ken Green, on the Golf Channel website the other day. This is the second tragedy to befall Green in the last 8 months, following the death of his brother and girlfriend in a motor vehicle accident in June last year. Green badly [...]

How to watch live golf on the internet

January 26, 2010

I‘m lucky enough to have cable TV at home, so get to see most, if not all, PGA Tour events and majors, and many European Tour events. Not that I watch them all….although I’d like to!
As I live in Oz, the European and US golf events are usually on early in the morning, so I [...]

The Tube: Slammin’ Sammy Snead

January 23, 2010

EHM3ST72VA59 I recently read an article on Sam Snead over at ‘Armchair Golf Blog’, which prompted me to go in search of his swing on YouTube. I’m glad I did because I found this fantastic 5 min ’swing collection’.
Snead was considered by many to have the ‘perfect swing’…….hard to argue with that. This swing won [...]

Golf Digest ahead of the game with ‘Tips + Smartphone’

January 20, 2010

I reckon Golf Digest is the best golf magazine on the market, and apparently plenty of golfers feel the same – it just pips Golf Monthly in terms of circulation. I personally prefer the instruction section in Golf Digest…….but that doesn’t stop me getting both mags each month (something my wife can’t quite understand!).
Tips + [...]

The Tube: Daly’s got nothing on these guys!

January 17, 2010

Check out this video of the 2008 Remax Long Drive competition, won by 20-year-old former hockey player Jamie Sadlowski. The slow motion footage really demonstrates the technique these guys use to produce so much power and speed…….and the commentary’s pretty good too.
Incidentally, Sadlowski won again in 2009 using a 6.5 degree Adams 9032LD Driver and [...]

How NOT to analyze your golf swing

January 14, 2010

When I left my job late last year I handed back my work mobile phone. The perfect excuse to buy myself an iPhone! I’d been thinking about getting one for awhile, but couldn’t really justify it while my employer provided me with a phone.
Now that I have one I’ve been trying out some of the [...]

The Tube: These putting tips saved me at least 2 shots today!

January 10, 2010

I‘ve been struggling with my short game for awhile, well ever since I started playing golf if I’m honest! As an average golfer who doesn’t hit too many greens in regulation, I really should devote more time to practicing my short game.
So…….before this morning’s round I watched this putting video from Shawn Clement, a top [...]
