So how can the internet improve your golf?

I think it’s appropriate that the first post be about how the internet can

improve your golf game, knowledge and enjoyment. After all, this blog is

about finding and sharing quality online golf resources.

There wouldn’t be much point finding these resources if they didn’t provide some value, and ideally improve our golf game. The internet has some excellent golf resources that many of us aren’t aware of, or don’t take full advantage of. The trick is sorting the mediocre from the outstanding, because there’s plenty of mediocre out there!

One of the key aims of this site is to help you (and me) find the outstanding stuff and spend less time trawling through the mediocre……and ultimately give us more time on the golf course!

There’s loads of great golf content on the internet

Here’s a summary some (not all) golf resources already on the internet:

News:
more and more people are turning away from television and newspapers to the internet for news, and golf’s no exception. You can find golf related news as it happens from anywhere in the world. Because the focus and quality of news sources on the internet is so diverse, you should be able to find a few news sites that are right for you

Lessons:
you’re no longer limited to paying through the nose for coaching lessons from your local pro, the internet allows you to receive personalized coaching from some great international teachers without leaving home, and for a fraction of the price of standard lessons

Golf Records and Statistics:
you can find information about any tour, tournament or player in the world from the time golf was first played competitively (approx. 15th century) until about 2 minutes ago

Equipment Reviews:
before you buy that new set of clubs or game changing putter, check out some reviews online to see what others are saying about it

TGW.com - The Golf Warehouse - The Premier Online Golf Superstore_1260305153219Online Shopping (or browsing):

the internet is a global mall of new and used golf products. Online stores are often able to sell at adiscount due to lower overheads. Depending on what I’m buying I sometimes ‘browse’ online then buy at a physical store where I can feel and test the product

Personal Score/Statistics Tracking:
the internet is a great place to keep your golf scores and stats. There are plenty of free tools to manage your sores and stats online, and you can share and compare your stats with your golf mates

Golf Video:
YouTube is a great source of free golf footage….whether it’s reliving Larry Mize’s chip-in to win the 1987 Masters (see video below) or improving your game from a selection of thousands of video golf lessons

Forums:
there are countless golf forums online, bringing like-minded golfers together to share views, tips and experiences with each other

General Knowledge:
brush up on your knowledge of golf, including history, rules and competition formats. The internet is an excellent source of information for all golfers, but particular those just starting out

Golf Travel:
you can research and book your next golf holiday without leaving your house – there are plenty of choices for booking your next golf holiday online, no matter what part of the world your from or going to

…..and more:
there’s much more out there already, and more and more content and services will continue to move online.

But nothing beats beating balls

At the end of the day the internet will never replace the enjoyment we get from being out there playing the game, and spending time with like-minded people. However, the internet is a great way to keep learning about the game when we’re not on the course. I’m looking forward to sharing and discussing great resources with you.
